Defibrillator hand over at Hervey Bay RSL

Photo: Des Richters (Left), President of Hervey Bay City Rotary Club donates a potential life saving HeartStart defibrillator to Mike McMahon (Right), General Manager of Hervey Bay RSL and Mike hands over a $3,000 dollar donation to Des.

The Hervey Bay City Rotary Club gets right behind the move to locate potential life saving equipment to the Hervey Bay RSL Club.  After hearing about Heart Support Australia’s fundraising to buy HearStart defibrillators for the community, the Hervey Bay City Rotary Club decided to provide full support to the idea.

Hervey Bay City Rotary donated a defibrillator to the RSL Club.  Staff will participate in training with the Queensland Ambulance Service to be qualified to use the equipment when a client or member of staff suffers sudden cardiac arrest.  The defibrillator has the potential to significantly increase the survival rate of patients if used quickly.

The RSL was also impressed with the idea of getting defibrillators into populated locations in the community, so they donated $3,000 to Hervey Bay City Rotary for the purchase of another unit.

It is hoped that more defibrillators will be placed in populated locations throughout Hervey Bay resulting in a higher survival rate for people who experience sudden cardiac arrest.

Thank you to Lesley Barry for all your work on this project.
